On October 21, 2021, Taylor|Anderson attorneys Kevin Taylor, Katherine Woodward, John Osgood, and Rob Barlow obtained a complete defense verdict in a mass shooting case. Taylor|Anderson represented a well-known women’s health provider accused of failing to provide appropriate security measures including security guards, security fencing and security doors. The shooter killed three people, including a uniformed police officer, and shot and seriously wounded 8 others. Taylor Anderson hired an expert criminologist as well as a premises security expert to help prove the shooter’s attack was not reasonably foreseeable and not reasonably preventable. Taylor Anderson handled all aspects of the litigation, including appeals to the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court, before finally taking the case to a two-week jury trial in October 2021 and securing a defense verdict for our client.
The defense verdict in this case follows Taylor|Anderson’s defense verdict in the premises liability case against Cinemark arising from the July 20, 2012 fatal shooting rampage by James Holmes at Cinemark’s Century 16 multiplex in Aurora, Colorado. On May 19, 2016, after the jury deliberated for about three hours, attorney Kevin Taylor obtained a complete defense verdict in favor of Cinemark.
Taylor|Anderson continues to bring its unparalleled experience and expertise to premises liability defense, including cases involving fatal attacks and life-threatening events to staff, patrons, and visitors at our clients’ movie theatres, health care facilities, entertainment venues, apartment complexes, and commercial properties.
